Perched on a piece of watermelon this patriotic blackbird proudly displays an American flag in its beak. Hand carved from American chestnut the wood grain is so vivid as it peeks through the paint and finish. There are some natural cracks and wormholes in the watermelon as seen in the photos. Peter says it just adds to the character of the wood. The blackbird is intricately carved and there is so much expression in its eyes. The flag is made from copper mesh and the blackbird's feet are made from copper wire and epoxy, all made by the artist.
